Grace Kids Children’s Ministry
Our ministry exists to make more and better disciples of the children of Grace Bible Church and the surrounding community.
What is Grace Kids?
Grace Kids is the name of our Children’s Ministry at Grace Bible Church and is led by a team of staff and volunteers whose passion is children and whose mission is to “make more and better disciples.” The Gospel of Mark (10:13-16) records that when people brought children to Jesus, he welcomed the children, took them in his arms, and blessed them. In the same way, it is our desire to come alongside you to help bring your children to Jesus and to be a blessing to them and to your family.
Each volunteer who serves in Grace Kids is being equipped to intentionally disciple the children in our care, from the nursery through sixth grade. This discipleship begins and ends with the gospel of Jesus Christ. We teach the children in age appropriate ways about their sin and separation from God (Rom. 3:23). We teach them about God’s holiness and his law (Ex. 20:1-17). We teach them about God’s love, mercy, and grace as seen throughout redemptive history and ultimately revealed in the person and work of Jesus Christ (John 3:16; Heb 1:1-3). We teach them about their need to turn from their sin (i.e. repent) and to trust and believe in Jesus alone for their salvation (Acts 4:12; Rom 6:23; 10:9). Finally, we teach the children how they should live and worship God as a result of their salvation (Rom 12:1-2; 1 Pet 1:13-19).
Grace Kids Programs:
To accomplish our mission, Grace Kids provides families with several age/grade level children’s programs:
- Sunday Morning
- Nursery (newborns to 35 months)
In addition to providing a safe and secure nursery for your littles, a nursing mother’s room is also available for moms and babies.
- 9:30am Grace Kids Worship (3 yrs – 4th grade)
All children (regardless of age) are welcome to participate in our worship service. However, we do provide separate Children’s worship programs for children three years old through first grade and children in second through fourth grades. Each program has a time of worship, age-appropriate Bible teaching, and fun learning activities.
On the fifth Sunday of the month (i.e. our Fifth Sunday Service), the children in second through fourth grades worship together with their families in the main worship service.
- 11:00am Grace Kids Sunday School (3 yrs – 6th grade)
For our Children’s Sunday School classes, we currently use Answers Bible Curriculum, published by Answers in Genesis. Answers Bible Curriculum is a chronological Sunday school curriculum that covers the entire Bible every four years.
- Winter (December – February)
- Upward Basketball (K – 6th grade)
Upward is a church sports league that Grace Bible Church participates in for K5 thru 6th graders for boys and girls. Upward is focused on encouraging children to be physically active and to live Godly lives. For more information, contact Darren Avery.
- Summer (June)
- Vacation Bible School (3 yrs – 6th grade)
Our 5-day VBS program runs Monday – Friday, from 6pm – 8:45pm. Themes from our past VBS programs include Ocean Commotion, Operation Artic, and Time Lab. For more information, contact Pam Good or Emily Terflinger.
Grace Kids Child Safety:
Because of our love for children and the dangers to children that exist in our society, the Elders of Grace Bible Church have established a child protection policy (CPP) that is designed to provide (to the greatest extent possible) for the safety and security of all children who are served by the ministries of Grace Kids. To access the CPP, please click here (PDF download).
As a part of that policy, all new volunteers who want to serve in Grace Kids must first attend our church for six months, then complete a children’s ministry application, meet with the director of children’s ministry, provide references, pass a national background check, and attend an annual child safety training seminar. Existing Grace Kids volunteers must pass a national background check every three years as well as attend the annual child safety training seminar. In addition, our CPP requires that all Grace Kids teachers be members of Grace Bible Church.
Along with volunteer screening and training, Grace Kids uses a check-in process whereby only parents or other authorized individuals are allowed to access the children’s wing to pick up children from class.
Grace Kids Volunteers:
Grace Kids is always looking for men, women, and teenagers who have a desire to make more and better disciples of the children of Grace Bible Church and the surrounding community. While we are blessed to have many professional educators, homeschool parents, and childcare providers lead and serve in Grace Kids, we are also blessed to have business professionals, tradesmen, grandparents, and high school and college students serve our children as well. If you want to be a disciple maker and if you have a love for children, we could use you as a teacher, class helper, gatekeeper, or nursery caregiver. If you are interested in partnering with us in this ministry, please contact Tom Bastress, Director of Children’s Ministry, for more information.
